Hi, I'm Elizabeth L. Mertilus
I'm the artist and designer behind Designs by Sweet ELM, and honestly? I'm still pinching myself that this is real. My art journey actually started as a form of self care — a way to ease my mind after a long day at my 9 to 5. Just me and my iPad, unwinding and creating. But it became so much more than that...it was a space to be creatively free.
When I'm not drawing or actually baking sweet treats in the kitchen, you can find me playing video games, getting lost in a fantasy novel, or spending time with loved ones. It's a peaceful life here in New England and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I look forward to getting to know all of the cozy vibes enthusiasts out there. Welcome to my page! 🌸
How Designs by Sweet ELM came to life
It started with a single course and a whole lot of curiosity. Happyfox Supply Co. taught me how to draw simple elements and build seamless patterns — and I was hooked from day one. There is something so satisfying about watching a tiny drawing tile into something beautiful.
But I did not stop there. I found a Kawaii Workshop by Tatyana Deniz and everything shifted. Kawaii was not just a style — it was the style. The round shapes, the soft colors, the little faces on everything. It matched my energy completely and I dove in headfirst.
Joining the Happy Creators Collective was the moment Caramelle came to life. Surrounded by other creatives, my imagination just took off. I combined my love of baking — the cupcakes, the cookies, the muffins, all the cozy sweet things — with everything I had been learning as an artist, and suddenly I had a whole world to build.
Designs by Sweet ELM is more than just a shop. It is a place to share my journey, celebrate creativity, and hopefully connect with like-minded people who love all things sweet and lots of pink. If that sounds like you — welcome. You are in the right place.
