How I Make Seamless Patterns (and Why I'm Obsessed)

Every seamless pattern I make starts with a feeling. For Blueberry Muffin Craze, I wanted something that felt like a Sunday morning — warm, a little messy, totally delicious. So I grabbed my iPad and just started sketching muffins.

Step 1: Sketch the Elements

I drew the muffin and blueberry elements freehand, then used a stamp for the hearts and sparkles. I try to keep the lines as sharp and clean as possible — but I'll leave a few small imperfections here and there on purpose. That little hint of handmade is what gives it life.

Step 2: Build the Repeat

I arrange the elements using the diamond method so the tiles repeat seamlessly in every direction. Procreate makes this so much easier — the Snapping and Magnetic features keep everything perfectly on track so there are no obvious seams or gaps.

Step 3: Color Everything

Color is where the magic happens. I always start with a background color first, then build the palette around it. For Lemon Poppy Seed Party, that warm peach background came first — everything else just fell into place.

• ✦Add one "pop" color for contrast — for example your favorite color in the palette, just bolder
• ✦Test the pattern tiled at small and large scales

Once I'm happy with the repeat, I export it as a high-res PNG and list it in the shop as an instant digital download. You can use it for fabric printing, scrapbooking, wrapping paper, digital backgrounds — honestly the possibilities are endless!
