Meet the Bakery Bees — Coming Soon to the Shop!

Every new collection I make starts with a "what if" moment. This one started with a tutorial on drawing garden bees — soft, round, buzzy little things with striped bodies and tiny wings. I was just practicing. And then I thought: what if these bees helped Caramelle in the bakery?

That one question sent me down the most delightful rabbit hole. Suddenly the bees had little chef hats. They were holding cupcakes and whisks. They had the same rosy cheeks and sparkly eyes as Caramelle. They belonged in her world completely.

From Garden to Kitchen

The original bee design was inspired by a workshop exercise — simple shapes, bold stripes, expressive little faces. But once I put a tiny baker's hat on one of them and gave it a pink cupcake to hold, the whole concept clicked. These weren't just bees. They were Caramelle's baking crew.

I drew several poses — bees holding cupcakes, bees clutching whisks, bees mid-flight with frosting on their fuzzy little heads. Each one has that same warm, cheerful energy I try to put into every character I create.

Building the Seamless Pattern

Once I had the bee characters I loved, I built the seamless repeat around them. The palette came together quickly — warm butter yellow for the background, sky blue for the baking tools, and pops of pink for the cupcakes and frosting. It felt sunny and sweet without being overwhelming.

The pattern tiles seamlessly in every direction, which means it works beautifully on fabric, wrapping paper, tumblers, tote bags — really anything you can print on. I've already seen it on a tea towel mockup and I am obsessed.

What's Coming to the Shop

The Bakery Bees collection is almost ready! I'm planning to list the seamless pattern as a digital download so you can use it for your own projects, plus some printed products featuring the design. That little bee sticker on the tumbler below just makes me so happy every time I grab my morning coffee.
